Work Experience

Having worked for years as a tour operator in India, it was a natural transition to take tourists and expats around my local market in Penang, Malaysia. I receive so much pleasure in introducing people to the exotic tastes and little-known foods of Asia.

Cooking Classes

Eight years ago, I was running cooking demos of the meals I have learned to cook both in Malaysia as well as India and other countries. My demo participants began asking if I would teach a hands-on cooking class –and Cooking with Alou began.

I am a Filipina and raised in the Philippines until I was 18 when I moved to the U.S.

I started cooking at the young age of 12 for my family while living in the Philippines.  After I moved to the U.S. I met my husband, and soon we moved to India to start a tour business. It was in India that my love for ethnic cooking ignited. From that point on, all I have ever wanted to do is learn about the local cuisines and how to make them as authentic as possible.

Get up early and go to the local produce markets. In Latin America and Asia, those are usually great places to find delicious food stalls serving cheap, authentic and fresh specialties.
